SERGIO CORRIERI: REVOLUTIONARY, ARTIST

March 3 - 12 at the Trylon

Born in poverty, Corrieri became one of Cuba’s leading actors and theater directors as well as the Cuban Communist Party’s head of cultural development. The Trylon presents two of that country’s greatest films, both of which star Corrieri and blend the personal and the political. Promotional support for these screenings is provided by the Minnesota Cuba Committee, in conjunction with its Cuban Film Festival, running February 21–March 28.

(1968, DCP, 98m, Spanish w/ English subtitles) dir Tomás Gutiérrez Alea w/Salvador Wood, Daisy Granados, Eslinda Núñez. This incisive drama follows a bourgeois intellectual (Corrieri) as he struggles to reconcile himself with the forces of history. It is considered a masterpiece of 1960s cinema.
