HARDENED STEEL: THE WHITE-KNUCKLE FICTIONS OF HENRI-GEORGES CLOUZOT

March at the Trylon

As a Frenchman in Weimar Germany, Henri-Georges Clouzot honed his craft watching the expressionist films of F. W. Murnau and Fritz Lang. The Nazis invaded his homeland as he was bedridden with tuberculosis, unable to fight. His films were labeled immoral by the Catholic Church, anti-Nazi by the Vichy government, collaborationist by the anti-Nazi press, and anti-American by U.S. reviewers. He has since been recognized as one of the great directors of the 20th century.

Promotional support for these screenings is provided by Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul.
