The Lion In Winter

(1968, DCP, 134m) dir Anthony Harvey w/Peter O’Toole, Katherine Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins, Timothy Dalton. When King Henry II (O’Toole) agrees to let his conspiratorial, imprisoned wife, Eleanor (Hepburn), out for a Christmas visit, the struggle among their three thoroughly dislikeable sons for the crown begins. O’Toole does virtuoso work as the bullying, conceited, bruised monarch.  For Perisphere, Liz Robau explores Katharine Hepburn’s powerful performance as Queen Eleanor, and Matthew Lambert discusses which son truly deserves the title of King.
