(2018, HD, 111m) dir Ondi Timoner. This stylish and well-crafted biopic covers the full life of its subject, world renowned and controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, most frequently providing an alluring view of New York in its grittiest era. The film stars Matt Smith and is directed by the only two-time Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner, Ondi Timoner.

Timoner’s version of “MAPPLETHORPE” was selected for Sundance 2018 but was removed before its premiere and edited to omit elements related to the photographer’s childhood, his erotically-tinged fascination with Catholicism, and other aspects of his artistic development. It premiered at Tribeca in 2018 and was theatrically released by Samuel Goldwyn earlier this year. Although the abridged version won eight Audience Awards at various festivals, it was received with mixed to negative reviews by critics. “MAPPLETHORPE The Director’s Cut” offers Timoner’s original, complete and resonant vision.

Director Ondi Timoner will be present and a Q & A will follow the screening.
