Love & Basketball

(2000, DCP, 124m) dir Gina Prince-Bythewood w/Omar Epps, Sanaa Lathan, Glenndon Chatman. Love & Basketball excels on both sides of the ampersand: a great romance, expressed as tenderly as Maxwell singing “This Woman’s Work” on the soundtrack; a great sports drama, exploring lack of opportunity in the pre-WNBA era. -Geoffrey Stueven, box office volunteer since September 2010.
