King Of New York

Sunday, November 26–Tuesday, November 28

(1990, DCP, 103m) dir Abel Ferrara w/Larry Fishburne, Christopher Walken, David Caruso, Wesley Snipes. Released from prison, Frank White (Walken) is set to retake leadership of the underworld, clean up the streets, and give back to the community. Ferrara at his most stylistic presents late-1980s New York as a deliriously violent, crime-ridden cesspool run by crooked cops and mobsters.

At Perisphere, Michael Wellvang defends Abel Ferrera’s “superficial” style and the chaotic energy of Christopher Walken’s performance as Frank White.
