His Motorbike, Her Island

Sunday, November 16–Tuesday, November 18

(1986, 90m, Japanese w/English subtitles) dir Nobuhiko Ôbayashi w/Kiwako Harada, Noriko Watanabe, Riki Takeuchi. A small-town girl (Harada) catches a glimpse of a 750cc Kawasaki and its eccentric driver (Watanabe) riding through her island hometown and becomes obsessed. Ôbayashi’s signature effects-laden storytelling makes what would be simple melodrama into glorious experimentation. SUN 7:15 MON/TUE 7:00 9:00
