(2023, DCP, 80m) An exclusive sneak preview of the experimental documentary EN AVANT [about a year in MPLS] before its world premiere at Athens International Film + Video Festival. EN AVANT [about a year in MPLS] is a meditative ride through the city during a period of tumult and transition, shot entirely from a bike, with a haunting immersive soundtrack by GNAWED and analog video manipulations by Gordon Byrd (Basement Vibes, Teenage Moods). This screening will feature live performances by GNAWED (dark atmospheric industrial noise from Grant Richardson of Atrox Pestis and Pain Apparatus) and SHADOW ON GLASS (themes from imaginary horror films by Bill Henson of Juhyo and Housepig Records). Every admission will include a free DVD and other media from attending artists. $10
Dan S is a writer/director/editor and sometimes camera operator currently residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A recipient of two McKnight Fellowships (2010/2016) and The Creative Capital Award for Moving Image (2015), he has been recognized for his experimental narrative and documentary work (VORE KING, INVINCIBLE FORCE, SEEKING WELLNESS). Dan uses confrontational structures, poetic imagery, and immersive sound to explore technological isolation, destructive masculinity, generational violence, and the commodification of human suffering, among other things. His work has been seen at Anthology Film Archives, The Walker Art Center, MoMA, Ann Arbor Film Festival, True/False Film Festival, Fantasia, Fantastic Fest, Kurzfilm Hamburg, Revelation Perth, Antimatter [Media Art], FLEXFest, Cosmic Rays, Grand Illusion Cinema, and a few other places.
