Emperor Of The North

Sunday, April 16–Tuesday, April 18

(1973, DCP, 118m) dir Robert Aldrich w/Lee Marvin, Keith Carradine, Charles Tyner. In the depths of the Great Depression, sadistic conductor Shack (Borgnine) will stop at nothing to keep hobos off his train. A-No.1 (Marvin) is set on challenging Shack and becoming “the Emperor of the North Pole” (the world’s best hobo, ruling a vast, barren wasteland). Aldrich’s film is a biting critique of corporate disdain for the poor.
