Dragnet Girl in 35mm

Friday, May 8–Sunday, May 10

(1933, 100m, silent w/English subtitles) dir Yasujirô Ozu w/Kinuyo Tanaka, Jôji Oka, Kôji Mitsui, Sumiko Mizukubo. This gorgeously photographed gangster film follows Jyoji, a Tokyo hoodlum, (Oka), Kazuko (Mizukubo), and Tokiko (Tanaka) as they navigate the difficulties of a romantic triangle. Dragnet is unlike any other film that Ozu would make. He uses complex camera movements and impressionistic lighting in this masterful proto-noir. With live accompaniment by Katie Condon.
