Dogra Magra

(1988, 109m, Japanese w/ English subtitles) dir Toshio Matsumoto w/Yôji Matsuda, Shijaku Katsura, Hideo Murota. A man wakes in an asylum with no memory and is informed that he killed his bride on their wedding day. His memory seems to be tied to a dark manuscript, the Dogra Magra. Reality and fantasy blur in the midst of disturbing and confusing experiments. The brand new restoration of director Matsumoto’s last film (famous for Funeral Parade of Roses) is a phantasmagorical descent into gloom and despondency.
