(1992, DCP, 96m) dir Abel Ferrara w/Harvey Keitel, Peggy Gormley, Victor Argo, Brian McElroy. LT (Keitel) is a corrupt NYPD detective tasked with investigating the rape of a young nun. However, he’s more interested in using his authority to skirt his gambling debts and pursue his vices. Ferrara’s film questions whether redemption is possible in an authoritarian police state.

At Perisphere, Michael Wellvang compares Harvey Keitel’s Bad Lieutenant to the much less fictional, but equally questionable character of Wayne Huizenga, and editor Finn Odum weighs the ambiguous impact of Abel Ferrara’s complicated tale of police corruption and Catholic morals.
