AVA GARDNER: FAMOUS BY ACCIDENT

April at the Trylon

The daughter of a North Carolina sharecropper, Ava Gardner was plucked from obscurity when a portrait photograph of her made its way to MGM by chance. She stunned audiences with her strength and beauty. Spirited, foul-mouthed, and independent-minded, she was notoriously work-shy, typically learning her lines en route to the set. Yet her performances reflect her natural ease in front of the camera.
